Tamarind Vermicelli or Semia is another form of Semia where the sour taste of tamarind dominates the dish. It is made by tempering mustard, curry leaves and chilies in a little oil and adding tamarind water to it. Once the water is boiling, the Semia is added until it is well cooked. The tamarind water with herbs needed for the recipe is included as a masala packet. Vermicelli or Semia is an Indian form of spaghetti made from durum wheat. The short spaghetti is used in making sweet dishes like Kheer or Payasam. The vermicelli can be used to make a morning breakfast in the form of Upma along with vegetables such as peas, beans and carrots.
