Mappillai Samba Rice, popularly known as Bridegroom’s Rice. in the Tamil folklore, on the auspicious day of marriage the groom in order to prove his physical strength had to lift a huge rock which obviously required a lot of energy and that’s when the groom is made to eat the Mappillai Samba Rice aka The Bridegroom’s Rice. Mappillai Samba Rice is a native variety of rice which is red in colour but sometimes it is also found grey in colour. It is predominantly grown and used in TamilNadu but it initially originated in Thiruvannamalai, TamilNadu. This superfood is nutrient dense with 20 percent of the daily values for magnesium, phosphorus, and high levels of antioxidants.
